Greenways Festival Events

Ahascragh - Saturday 28 June 2003
Kilconnell - Sunday 29th June 2003
Aughrim - Thursday 3rd July 2003

Ahascragh will hold the initial day of the O'Kelly clan gathering, this event will cover three days, covering Ahascragh, Kilconnell, Aughrim. The O'Kelly Clan Chieftain will be bestowed and entertainment for 3 days will be laid on which will include a battle re-enactment company hosting battle re-enactments, campfire talks and traditional food of the times. Walks will also take place to the O'Kelly Castles. A large crowd of overseas visitors are expected to this event.

Lawrencetown - Friday 4th July 2003
Clonfert - Saturday 5th July 2003
Eyrecourt - Sunday 6th July 2003
Meelick - Thursday 10th July 2003
Portumna - Friday 11th July 2003

All the above will host a weeks festivities on the Madden Clan. The festivities will include battle re-enactments, banquets, walks to the O'Madden Castles and walking events on the newly developed Greenway. This will be arranged in conjunction with the O'Madden Clan and a new Clan Chieftain will be bestowed during the week. Also in Mellick and Portumna 2 days of Cycling will be organised to coincide with the Official Opening of the Greenway Cycle Route in East Galway.

Lorrha

Saturday 12th July 2003
Lorrha will host a Mac Egan Clan Gathering on the Banks of the Shannon where the original Castle still stands. A summer school will be held on O'Sullivan Beara's famous March and how he crossed the Shannon in 1603. This summer school will be attended by historians from all parts of the country and abroad.

Ballingarry - Sunday 13th July 2003
Cloughjordan - Thursday 17th July 2003
Toomevara - Friday 18th July 2003

The 3 above towns will host a clan gathering of the O'Kennedy Clan. The event will include battle re-enactments, Banquets and a walking festival. Traditional music will also be heard in all 3 villages throughout the 3 days along with actors from the battle re-enactment company dressing in clan clothing of 1603. Cloughjordan will officially open the new Greenway Cycle Route, which will be developed and a cycling festival will be held to mark the occasion.

Templederry

Saturday 19th July 2003
Templederry will host a clan gathering for the Ryan clan. A new Clan Chieftain will be bestowed throughout the day along with a battle re-enactment and banquet. Traditional music will be heard in the evening to end the day's events.
