Blacklion
and Dowra
Starts Saturday 17th
A walking festival will take place on the Cavan Way, starting
in Blacklion and finishing in Dowra. Along the route there will
be a mock bestowal on a McGovern Clan Chieftain by 'The Shannon
Pot' (the source of the River Shannon). The walking festival will
travel on to Dowra where a battle re-enactment company will do
a display in the village. This will be followed on by traditional
music in the village and will attract a large amount of walkers
and McGovern's from abroad and Northern Ireland.

Arigna

25th May 2003
Arigna will open Phase 1 of their Mining Museum Project. The Project
will cost over 600,000 Euro. The opening will display how miners
extracted the coal from the Arigna Mountains. Links have been
made with the Mining Industry in Wales and they expect a large
grouping of people to arrive from Wales for this event. A walking
festival will also take place from the mine along Leitrim Way
to Arigna. The day will finish off with traditional music in the
evening in the village.

Drumshanbo

Drumshambo will host a Clan Gathering of the McManus clan, the
clan has made contacts in the USA and Australia and they are expecting
a large group of McManus's to travel from overseas. The event
will include talks on the McManus. Walks to the McManus sights
and the new McManus Clan Chieftain will be bestowed in Drumshambo
town during the day. Traditional music will be held in the village
that evening.

Leitrim
Village

Leitrim Village will host Festivals, which will include cycling
on the Kingfisher way. This cycle route will be over 50 miles
long and large groups are expected due to the success of the 'Border
Track Cycling Event', which has taken place over the years. A
clan event will also take place in connection with the O'Rourke's
of Breifne and a new O'Rourke Clan Chieftain will be bestowed.
The O'Rourke's have a lot of international contacts overseas and
are expecting a large group to arrive for this event. This project
is also backed by Leitrim County Council and their Tourism Officer
is co-ordinating this event.

Knockvicar

Knockvicar and Boyle will host a horse racing event in the grounds
of Lough Key Forest Park. This event should attract up to 5000
people.

Keadew

Keadue will host a walking festival along the Miner's Way. This
route will cover 15 miles, in the mountainous region of North
Roscommon. This event will travel the historic area of the miners
of North Roscommon to and from where they worked in the Mines.

Ballyfarnon

Ballyfarnon will host a second day of a walking festival in conjunction
with Keadue. It will cover another 20 miles of the Miner's Way.
This route will pass through a very important archaeological area
and an archaeological team will be given to this day's walk.

Highwood

Highwood will have a clan gathering on the Mac Donagh's Clan.
The new clan chieftain will be bestowed. This will be the first
time in many years that the Mac Donagh's have organised a clan
rally in this area.

Castlebaldwin will host a walking festival on the Miner's Way.
A walk will travel to various archaeological sites and the day
will be completed by traditional music in the evening in the village.

Gurteen will host a Walking Festival on the shore of Lough Gara,
this event will be in conjunction with the O'Gara Clan. Traditional
costume will be worn in the village that night and a session of
traditional music will be heard in the famous Coleman Heritage
Centre..

Monasteraden

Monasteraden will host an historic walking event along the shores
of Lough Gara, showing 'Crannogs' in the lake. This lake has the
highest density of Crannogs in the country. The walk will then
continue on to the Moygara Castle, talks will be given on the
history of the O'Garat's, their castles and the estate in general.
The day will be finished off with a traditional music session
in the village.
