Ardpatrick, Co,. Limerick

Ardpatrick village is a small well-kept village in Co. Limerick and tradition has it that St. Patrick himself founded Ardpatrick Monastery. Ardpatrick was the chief centre of 'Paruchia Patricci' in Munster, second only to Armagh in the collection of church taxes, Bishop Ceallach of Armagh died here on a visit in 1129. On the hill the ruins of a church and round tower can be found along with a panoramic view of counties of Limerick and Clare. Each year in July, the village hosts a 'Fianna' festival, which includes a 10k-road race for men, women and wheelchair athletes.
