Beara -Breifne Greenway The O'Sullivan Beara Historic Route as part of the European Greenway




Loughglynn, Co. Roscommon

The village of Loughglynn is located about 6 miles north-west of Caslterea. Located in the village is an 18th-century mansion. This village is in the heart of the west Roscommon Lake District and is rich in folklore. The village is surrounded by six lakes, including "Loch Glinne" an artificial lake built by the Lord of the Ma as a birthday present for his wife. Loughglynn House was once the seat of the Dillon family. it was built approximately 1750. Every year Loughglynn hosts the Woodlands Harvest Festival.

Clan Name

Loughglynn is part of the ancestral home of the Costelloes and forms a stage of the Beara-Breifne Greenway which is based on the historic march of O'Sullivan Beara in 1603.

Greenways Festival 2003

Loughlynn is talking part in the Greenways Festival in summer 2003 to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the legendary 1603 march of O’Sullivan Beara from the Beara Peninsula to the Breifne area. Click here for info on the events
